ABSTRACT
BRAZILIAN MULTINATIONALS - THEORETICAL DEVELOPMENTS AND OUTLOOK: CHARACTERIZATION OF A TYPOLOGY
This paper aims to outline an evolutionary framework of Brazilian multinationals, from the perspective of the development of Latin American multinationals, from the point of view of heir integration into the globalization process. We seek to characterize the typical profile of these companies in terms of whether these latter are more located within the typology of Dunning as resouce seeking or market seeking, efficiency seeking or strategic-asset seeking. To confirm the validity of that evidence seeks to analyze qualitatively the main strategies of these companies in terms of its performance in foreign markets, checking the extent to which the strategic alignment of these companies is facing its main objectives in terms of exploitation of natural resources and cost advantages of unskilled labor (resource seeking), location advantages and synergies of the market (market seeking), or the standard efficiency-seeking investments (those that seek to streamline production and exploit economies of specialization and location) and those kind of strategic-asset seeking (directed acquisition of skills and resources in order to enhance their competitiveness through innovation and growth of strategic capabilities). We also intend to establish a broad theoretical framework that enables the development of a future research agenda for the design of the main strategies, public policies of nation states and also the financial strategies of these companies.
