Mas retomando às origens, foi em 1986, que um grupo formado por profissionais de marketing, de agências governamentais e professores universitários fundou, nos Estados Unidos da América, uma associação chamada atualmente,Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals - SCIP.
Poderia parecer só mais uma associação - em um país com competição acirrada, inovação em produtos e serviços, mas voltado à alta performance empresarial. Após 28 anos, o tempo mostrou que não se tratava apenas de mais uma associação, mas sim daquela que começou a registrar uma das questões empresariais mais desafiantes para qualquer profissional da atualidade: a competição.
